Improving Security with Security Gates
One of the best parts of security gates is that they don’t just add security themselves, but they also make all of your other security tools even more effective.
Security gates place a physical barrier between criminals and your property, this makes them the ideal tool for preventing smash and grab robberies and other such crimes. Here are a few ways that the addition of security gates can make your entire security system more effective.
1- They Slow Down Criminals, Making Alarm Systems More Effective
Most criminals want to be in and out of a property in seconds, hopefully before anyone can respond to an alarm system. This is why smash and grab robberies are so common. Criminals know that if they can steal what they’re looking for and get out quickly, they can be gone before anyone can react.
Security gates make it significantly more difficult to gain access to a property. This means it takes more time to get inside a location (if breaking in is possible at all.) Therefore, those criminals who attempt a break in are much more likely to get caught.
2- They Stop Criminals, Improving the Effectiveness of Security Cameras
Security cameras can provide you with details about a crime and help identify the criminals responsible. However, in many cases, this information is only provided after a crime has already taken place. If you have security gates installed, criminals are much less likely to be able to gain access to a property. This improves the effectiveness of security cameras since the footage they capture will be of criminals attempting a crime, not criminals successfully completing a crime.
3- They Give Security Guards More Time
The same way they give alarm systems and surveillance cameras more time to be effective, gates also increase the effectiveness of security guards. For example, a retail location in a mall that has its windows broken likely won’t have a mall security guard arrive on time to stop the crime. However, a retail location with security gates makes it a lot more likely that a guard can get to the scene to catch the criminals before the crime is completed.
4- They Prevent Shoplifting
There are a number of tools that reduce the likelihood of shoplifting. Many retail stores use a combination of security tools and staff monitoring to accomplish this task. However, locking valuables behind gates or in security cabinets can go a long way to making this process more effective. By placing small yet valuable items (the kind that are frequently stolen by shoplifters) behind gates and requiring staff to unlock these items for customers, you are drastically reducing shoplifting opportunities in your store.
5- They Deter Criminals
One of the main reasons that security gates improve overall security is because they deter criminals. Criminals know that, if they can commit a crime quickly, they can avoid alarm systems and security guards. They also know that if they cover their faces and conceal their identities, they can fool surveillance cameras. However, because security gates put a physical barrier between your property and the criminal, this makes it much more difficult to commit a crime. For this reason, many criminals avoid properties that have security gates installed. It just isn’t worth the time, effort and risk to them.
