Tips for Choosing Security Gates for Retail Stores

Choosing Security Gates for Retail Stores

Securing your retail store should be one of your main priorities. Unfortunately, criminals frequently target retail stores and smash and grab robberies are common. These robberies are what they sound like they are: A criminal smashes through the window or door of a store, enters the store, grabs whatever they can and leaves. The scariest part of a smash and grab robbery is that it often takes only minutes, and sometimes just seconds, for a criminal to get what they want. This doesn’t leave enough time for police or security guards to respond to an alarm and it barely leaves enough time for security cameras to capture decent footage. This is especially true if the criminals are wearing hoods or masks.

One of the main keys to protecting yourself from smash and grab robberies is to install security gates on your retail store.

Like with all security technology, making the right choice of security gates is important. When you’re choosing security gates for retail stores or any other property, it’s important to take the time to consider the options and make the right decision.

You will first need to decide which type of gate you’d like. For many properties, this will depend on the layout and style of the property itself. From folding security gates to top track security grilles to roll-down shutters, there are a number of different options available. For many people, the best option is to speak to a security professional who will assist you in choosing the right gates for your situation.

That brings up another great point about selecting security gates for your retail store. It is very important to choose the right security team when it comes to the purchase and installation of the gates. Be sure to shop around and choose a reputable company that has the knowledge and experience needed to provide you with the advice you need.

Why Retail Store Security Gates are Effective

As mentioned, smash and grab robberies only take a few minutes. Sometimes, it’s only a few seconds from the time the window or door is broken to when the criminal leaves the scene with the stolen goods. Security gates create a physical barrier that makes smash and grab robberies significantly more difficult. Criminals don’t want to spend the time it takes to attempt to disable the gates. They know that the longer they’re on the scene, the more likely they are to be caught in the act.

In this way, security gates work in conjunction with other types of security tools such as alarm systems and surveillance cameras. By slowing down the process and making it significantly more difficult to access a property, you’re giving the authorities more time to respond to an alarm and catch the criminals.

In addition, physical security can be used inside a retail store. For example, store owners can place small yet valuable items (which are frequently targeted by smash and grab robbers) behind gates. This provides extra protection. In those cases where a criminal is somehow able to gain access to a property, he or she will still have to circumvent additional types of physical security. This provides your property extra protection and gives you additional peace of mind.
