Security Gates and Doors: How They Deter Criminals

Using Security Gates and Doors to Deter Crime

There are many different types of security services and tools. Alarm systems can alert you of a crime in progress. Surveillance cameras can capture evidence that can be valuable to police and insurance companies. However, neither of these tools physically stops criminals from entering your business. Security gates and doors can help deter this from happening.

If you want to prevent crime from happening at your business, it’s critical that you look into installing security gates and doors that are designed to prevent smash and grab robberies. All access points to your business must be protected. Criminals will look for the path of least resistance. If they can smash through a window or pry a door from its hinges, and there is no gate to stop them from entering, they will take these actions. Criminals have no respect for your property and they will break, damage, or destroy whatever they need to to get into your business.

Smash and grab robberies are common because they are effective. Even if you have a security system that is designed to immediately call the police as soon as a break-in occurs, it takes time for police or security guards to arrive. Most smash and grab robberies are over within minutes. Some take just seconds. Criminals break through windows or doors, steal what they’re looking for, and leave the scene long before anyone can stop them.

Police cannot respond quickly enough to catch anyone and cameras often can’t capture high quality footage of these crimes. Even in situations where cameras are in place and recording, criminals can easily cover their faces with hoods or scarves, making it nearly impossible to identify them. This means that cameras and alarms do not deter criminals.

How Security Gates and Doors with Physical Security Keep Criminals Away

The speed of smash and grab robberies is why security gates and doors are so important. They place a physical barrier between criminals and your property. Many smash and grab robberies are carried out with basic tools, such as shovels, baseball bats, and crowbars. These tools are ineffective against security gates and doors that have physical protection installed.

Not only do physical barriers try to help keep criminals out, but they also work as a deterrent. When criminals look at a property and see security gates and doors that are protected by physical security, they know that it’s going to be very difficult and time consuming to gain access to a building. The vast majority will not want to take this risk. They would rather strike a business where they can get in and out quickly.

This is a majority advantage that security gates and doors have over tools such as window film. While film can potentially make it more difficult to break a window, criminals do not know it’s in place. This means they might make several attempts to gain access, causing significant damage to your property in the process.

Physical gates make it obvious that your business is serious about security and that keeps criminals away.
