Shipping Door Security During the Holiday Season

How shipping door security gates can keep warehouses and shipping facilities safe during the holidays and all year round.

How Physical Security Protects Shipping Doors

During the holiday season, retailers are stocking up with products and that means shipping facilities are busier than ever. While this can certainly be good for business, it can also be good for criminals. They often take advantage of busy shipping facilities and warehouses to steal items while staff are working. The busier a facility is, the greater chance of criminals being able to sneak in and take valuable goods.

Physical security gates are an excellent way to protect your property from these criminals. By using shipping door security, you prevent unauthorized access to your building. This keeps the criminals on the outside where they belong.

Shipping door security gates work because they create a physical barrier. Surveillance cameras can be used to capture evidence, but they don’t stop crimes from happening. They also often fail to deter criminals since scarves, hoods, or other coverings can be worn to obscure their identities. This means cameras don’t stop criminals as much as they help the police after a crime has already happened.

Alarm systems are another tool that many shipping facilities and warehouses use. However, even if they are designed to call the police right away, it still takes time for the authorities to arrive. In that time, the criminals will likely be gone from the scene.

Security guards can be used to protect shipping facilities, but this gets expensive and, depending on the size of your property, you’ll likely need many guards to keep things safe. Gates can be equally effective (if not more so) and they don’t require regular maintenance, monthly fees, or other unnecessary charges.

Uses for Shipping Door Security Gates

As mentioned, shipping door security gates keep criminals out of a property. They form a strong barrier that criminals cannot easily get through. In many cases, criminals are looking for easy targets. They want to be able to get into a building, steal what they’re looking for, and get out before they’re noticed. Physical security gates make this incredibly tough to do.

Another advantage of gates is that, while they form a barrier, they still allow light and air to pass through. This is important for many reasons. For one, employees at warehouses and shipping facilities often need to see if trucks are pulling up. This means they tend to leave garage doors open. However, while this is convenient, it is also a security risk. Gates can be placed on those bay doors instead, keeping criminals from entering the building while still allowing visibility. Gates also allow for ventilation, which is often needed year-round (especially during the summer months).

Gates are also important for safety. One of the main causes of injury at workplaces is slips, trips, and falls. By installing gates on shipping and receiving doors, you prevent slips and injuries. Shipping door security gates can easily be seen, and this leads to a greater overall safety in the workplace. Mobile security gates can even be used in various places inside a facility to restrict access to dangerous equipment, chemicals, or anything else that needs to be protected.

It’s also important to pick proper gates that are designed for your application. Every property is different, and every business is unique. Selecting the right gates – and layering them effectively with other security tools – will give your business with the best possible protection.
