Keeping Up Appearances with Security Gates
One thing that we hear often is that store owners don’t want to install security gates because they’re worried about how they look. They don’t want to scare customers off with bars or gates. They worry that having security gates will make their properties “look like a jail.”
While these fears may have been reasonable in the past, they’re no longer a concern.
Modern security gates can roll back or fold out of the way. This makes them nearly invisible while a property is open for business. You don’t have to worry about scaring customers away or making them feel unsafe. You can roll or fold your gates out of the way and continue to do business as usual.
However, when your property is closed for the evening, security gates can quickly and easily be locked. This allows you to protect your property. Rolling and folding security gates give you the best of both worlds.
Benefits of Physical Security Gates
There are many excellent reasons for why a business should have security gates installed. Security gates put a physical barrier between criminals and your property. Most robberies that take place are what are called “Smash and grab” robberies. In these crimes, a criminal breaks through a door or window, steals whatever items he or she is looking for and leaves the scene quickly.
Speed is very important in these crimes. Criminals know that it takes time for the authorities to respond, even if the police head to the crime scene as soon as an alarm sounds. By getting in and out of a property quickly, criminals can avoid the police and leave the area before anyone notices what is going on.
Physical security gates make it much more difficult to gain access to a property. A criminal won’t be able to simply walk up to a location, throw a rock through the window and get inside. By protecting your property
Security Gates and Other Security Tools
Some may feel that, since they already have an alarm system or security cameras installed, that they do not need to have physical security gates as well. However, security gates are not designed to compete with these other security tools. They work as a complement.
An alarm system alerts the authorities to a crime. Security cameras capture footage that will allow police to identify the criminals. And physical security tools prevent access and make it more difficult and time consuming to gain access to a property. All three can work together.
By making access more difficult, security gates make alarm systems and surveillance cameras more effective. If criminals spend more time trying to break in, police have more time to respond to an alarm and catch the criminals in the act. There is also more time for surveillance cameras to capture useful footage.
Because of these facts, many criminals don’t even bother attempting a break-in at a location that has security gates installed.
